About

Three generations of brick and stone.

Old Country Masonry was started in 1998 by a Croatian-trained mason and is now run by his sons. We are a local crew that restores Metro Detroit brick and stone, one home at a time.

Our story

Old tools. Honest accountability.

We learned masonry the old way. Lime mortar mixed by hand. Brick courses checked with a string line. No job is finished until the homeowner walks it with us. We pair that craft with written estimates, dated job photos, and straight answers from start to finish.

No call centers. No subcontracted travel crews. The mason who quotes your job is on the crew that builds it.

The Craft

Precision mortar matching.

Most repairs fail aesthetically before they fail structurally. Our four-step matching protocol makes the new work disappear into the old.

  • 01

    Era Identification

We date the original brick course (pre-1920 lime, 1920 to 1950 hybrid, post-1950 Portland) before mixing a single batch.

  • 02

    Color Spectrum Match

Wet and dry mortar samples are compared against the original in three light conditions (morning, noon, late sun).

  • 03

    Aggregate Sourcing

Sand is sieved to match the grain size and tint of the original, sourced regionally rather than bagged off the shelf.

  • 04

    Sample Panel Approval

A 12-inch test panel is laid, cured 48 hours, and signed off by you before full repointing begins.
